Abstract: Zusammenfassung Neben der Erfindung des nach ihm benannten Primzahlsiebs hat sich Eratosthenes insbesondere als Geograf, Chronologe und Bibliothekar hervorgetan. Berühmt ist insbesondere seine Messung des Erdumfangs; seine Erdbeschreibung erlaubt das Zeichnen einer Erdkarte mit Wendekreisen und einem Gradnetz. Er war Brief- und Ansprechpartner Archimedes‘ für die Alexandriner Mathematiker.
