Abstract: Abstract It seems difficult to balance economic development and historic city preservation. However, Suzhou has shown a success in its attempt to achieve sustainable development. This thesis analyzes the practice of Suzhou in the three aspects: industry division, commuting and Chinese culture, aiming to cast light on the sustainable development of cities in China and even around the world.
