Abstract:
Abstract The GPGPU (general purpose graphics processing units) has become a whole new area for research due to the fast development of GPU hardware and the programming tools such as CUDA (compute unified device architecture). Here, we have made a research on CUDA and its applications. In this paper, we clarify the architecture and characters of CUDA, together with the differences of programming between CUDA and CPU. The advantages of CUDA in some application fields are also revealed to provide new methods and thoughts for further study. Meanwhile, the rise of cloud computing provides another choice for the scientists and engineers. Consequently we analyze the current situation of scientific computing cloud and develop the architecture of cloud service on the basis of CUDA. At last, an optimistic outlook is given for the use of GPU in scientific computing area.
