Chapter Chapter 4 in Linear Programming Computation, 2014, pp 101-121 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The duality features a special relationship between a LP problem and another, both of which involve the same original data (A, b, c), located differently (except for the self-duality, see below). The former is referred to as primal problem while the latter as dual problem. It is important that there exists a close relationship between their feasible regions, optimal solutions and optimal values. The duality together with optimality conditions, yielding from it, constitute a basis for the LP theory. On the other hand, an economic interpretation of duality features its applications to practice. This chapter is devoted to these topics.
