Chapter Chapter 1 in A Course in In-Memory Data Management, 2014, pp 1-4 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This book In-Memory Data Management focuses on the technical details of in-memory columnar databases. Over the last years, in-memory databases and especially column-oriented in-memory databases grew in popularity and became widely researched [BMK09, KNF+12, Pla09]. With modern hardware technologies and increasing main memory capacities, this approach to data management promises groundbreaking new applications.
