Abstract:
Abstract There are real perils in predicting the future development of disciplines such as physics, astrophysics and cosmology. A few examples of events occurring at the beginning of centuries in the modern era illustrate the problem and act as a warning of the dangers of prognostication. I invite the reader to supply contemporary analogies from their own experiences of the sciences and mathematics.
