Abstract:
Abstract The flow of incompressible fluid inside an ellipsoidal shell with imposed rotation and precession is investigated by direct numerical simulation. The flow becomes unstable and eventually turbulent at large enough precession rates. The mechanisms behind these transitions are relevant for geophysical problems.
