Abstract:
Abstract The present work deals with the numerical transient simulation of load changes in a pulverised coal-fired utility boiler. The boiler is a tangential firing system with an electrical output of 750 MW. The code used for the calculations is the in-house developed 3D combustion code AIOLOS. The implemented solution procedure is based on either the well-known SIMPLEC method (Semi Implicit Method for Pressure Linked Equations Consistent) or the PISO approach (Pressure Implicit with Splitting of Operators). The stability of the procedure is independent of the time step, since an implicit temporal discretisation scheme (Euler Implicit) is used. A validation exercise is presented by comparing the numerical results with temperature measurements available from LSE (Lehrstuhl für Systemtheorie in der Elektrotechnik), Saarland University, Saarbrücken.
