Abstract:
Abstract The design and performance analysis of a complex optical instrument, such as an interferometer, leads to the study of a very large model: a set of equations that relate the parameters of the instrument. Problems are then to compute performances with respect to some fixed parameters or to find optimal values of parameters with respect to some required performances. Due to complexity of the models involved, there is no cpmletely automatic method to solve these problems. However, Computer Algebra, through the CIRCE package presented in this paper, can be an invaluable tool to define and store models, to express some parameters or performances as functions of other parameters, and then to generate dedicated numerical simulation.
