A chapter in Mathematik Schlüsseltechnologie für die Zukunft, 1997, pp 463-471 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This paper introduces a method for solving some special problems of determining the quality of directionally solidified matters. The method is developed for the quantitative characterization of the degree of regularity of planar quasi-lattice structures. It is particularly suitable for systems of objects distributed according to a disturbed lattice. The statistical analysis leads to a regularity plot and some regularity parameters. The application of the method to some metallic and nonmetallic examples is demonstrated. Finally, a simple model for such structures is discussed.
