Abstract:
Abstract This paper deals with modelling aspects and the numerical solution of heating processes in industrial furnaces. The goal is to obtain a certain uniform temperature for the ingots when leaving the furnace for further processing. The energy demand for such processes is immense and can be reduced by newly developed numerical methods of mathematical optimization. In the implementation this leads to large scale problems. They are solved with inexact reduced SQP methods and inexact SQP interior point methods. The main advantage of these methods is their fast convergence and reduction in computing time. Since the structure of the problem is used in the algorithm this also leads to a reduced amount of memory.
