Chapter 1 in Executive Teams in Research-Based Spin-Off Companies, 2013, pp 1-8 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Executive teams in research-based spin-off companies face specific challenges in establishing profitable ventures. On one hand, spin-offs are based on sophisticated knowledge and technology transferred from the parent institution to the new firm. On the other hand, executives often lack entrepreneurial and management skills when they change from the research environment to the new business. Generally, academic entrepreneurship and research-based spin-offs in particular have become important entities for researchers and practitioners. This chapter provides a brief introduction to the topic and outlines its relevance, the motivation and objective of this study, and the thesis structure.
