Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, we describe the planning process of a public transport company (Section 2.1) and, especially, the crew rostering problem in Section 2.2. In Section 2.3 we discuss some well-known optimization problems and techniques, which will be applied in the remainder of this thesis.
