Abstract: Zusammenfassung Nach den ersten beiden Besuchen in Princeton entstand der Wunsch, ein weiteres Jahr dort zu verbringen. Es scheint, dass daran von Anfang an sowohl Hirzebruch selbst als auch das IAS und die Princeton University interessiert waren. Über das Angebot der Universität wurde bereits früher berichtet. In einem Sitzungsprotokoll der School of Mathematics des IAS vom 1.10.1957 heißt es: »It was voted to explore the possibility of inviting Dr. F. Hirzebruch to spend next year as a member of the Institute with a joint appointment with the University.«
