Abstract: Zusammenfassung Im Jahr 1954 gelang Hirzebruch der internationale Durchbruch. Er schrieb sein opus magnum Neue topologische Methoden in der Algebraischen Geometrie, er hielt auf dem Internationalen Mathematiker-Kongress in Amsterdam Aufsehen erregende Vorträge, und zu Ende des Jahres war klar, dass er bald mit einer Berufung rechnen konnte.
