A chapter in New Work Hacks, 2021, pp 15-17 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract If the so called hacks are tips and tricks, what are New Work Hacks? New Work Hacks are initiatives that can improve the cooperation and the work situation as a whole. They are small movements that not only make working more modern and innovative, but also put people even more in the centre of the work to support meaningful work in the best possible way. The New Work Hacks have a common focus, which unites them in their added value: that work really makes more sense, that people are more satisfied and that even better results can be achieved. Thus, the New Work Hacks focus on the importance and the enabling of more transparency and openness, based on trust, successful communication with each other, responsible autonomy of the individual, consciously chosen (work) focus, learning and knowledge for further development, authentic and honest interaction with each other, value-added innovations and improvements and supporting structures and processes for meaningful work. New Work Hacks can therefore be used wherever they can provide a noticeable added value regarding how people work with each other. Courage, strength and perseverance are of great importance when implementing them. Many changes, even those that actually bring added value, are often first examined critically before one gets involved in trying something new. It is advisable to consciously involve employees in the process, who will then continue the New Work Hacks in their daily work. The internal knowledge and experience of the employees is a prerequisite for success, as people know their work area best. At the same time, they are shown appreciation and trust, which sustainably increases their motivation. Based on the previous chapter, in which New Work is described as a concept for meaningful and fulfilling work, this chapter deals with the added value of the New Work Hacks.
