Chapter 5 in Successfully Managing Complex Companies, 2023, pp 39-46 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 5 deals with the core task of assessing the situation and making decisions. First, the assessment of the situation is discussed. It is a constant task of the management. It leads to the discovery of deviations between the target and the actual situation or to decision problems. This is followed by a description of the handling of the discovered decision problems. It is shown that a variety of problem-solving processes can be used for this. The general heuristic problem-solving processes are of particular importance: They have no application conditions and are suitable for handling a wide variety of decision problems. Such a problem-solving process is presented. Finally, the responsibilities of the supervisory and executive boards in relation to situation assessment and problem solving are described.
