Abstract: Abstract Elmos Semiconductor SE is an international semiconductor manufacturer with roots in Dortmund and a pioneer of economic transformation in the Ruhr region. The case exemplifies the emergence of a hidden champion embedded in an innovation ecosystem in times of structural economic transformation in the Ruhr region. Multiple opportunities for business activities are explored and followed until a “winning formula” has been found and consequently executed.
