A chapter in Praxishandbuch Digitales Management, 2026, pp 237-254 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this article, we turn to digital multinational enterprises (MNEs). We explain what makes digital MNEs special and what distinct features they have. We look at the business models of these companies, explain the effect of increasing returns to scale, introduce platforms, show what constitutes network effects, and discuss why successful companies often dominate the entire market (the winner takes all). We also discuss positive and negative impacts of digital MNEs on society and the economy.
