A chapter in Formal Power Series and Algebraic Combinatorics, 2000, pp 645-654 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract We propose a method to solve a class of terminating hypergeometric series 2 F 1 by using generating functions and the Lagrange inversion formula. Altough the approach is not as general as the WZ-method, nonetheless it is rather effective and succeeds in solving sums that cannot be treated by similar methods, as the ones proposed for the solutions of Gosper’s strange identities.
