A chapter in The Mathematician Sophus Lie, 2002, pp 169-204 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Anna Birch gave Sophus Lie her yes on Christmas Eve 1872, when he visited her parents’ home in Risør. Her only condition was that for a period of time their engagement must be secret — by way of justification she claimed that she thought she was too young to commit herself.
