Abstract: Zusammenfassung Dass das Verhältnis von Diagonale zur Seite im Quadrat nicht kommensurabel ist, war eine große Enttäuschung für die frühen Pythagoräer, nach deren Auffassung (Alles ist Zahl) alle Verhältnisse kommensurabel, d. h. durch ein Verhältnis ganzer Zahlen, darstellbar sind.
