Chapter Chapter 12 in Medical Decision Making, 2022, pp 261-278 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract We stress a reversed perspective on medical decision making. By indicating their threshold, decision makers reveal how they value utility gains and losses induced by their decisions. Observing the behavior of medical decision makers reveals their preferences. Similarly, recommendations by medical societies or regulatory bodies implicitly (if not explicitly) inform us how they value the trade-offs involved with the provision of specific medical services. We present a series of examples in which we also refer to medical topics that we have analyzed in earlier chapters.
