Chapter Chapter 1 in Convince with Data, Inspire with Stories, 2025, pp 1-21 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The first chapter sheds light on important fundamentals of data storytelling. The author first explains why she herself became a data storyteller. She then provides background on the term “data storytelling” and clarifies its relevance in today’s time. She points out the growing importance of data storytelling and explains the dilemma of data overload in the era of digitalization and the desire of organizations to introduce data literacy. Afterwards, the author dedicates herself to the classification of data storytelling in the path from data collection to value creation and shows the limitations of data stories in the context of project reporting and dashboards. Overall, the first chapter provides a solid introduction to the topic of data storytelling and makes clear why it is gaining more and more importance in project management.
