From a Young Student to an Older One
Jürgen Leiterer
A chapter in Israel Gohberg and Friends, 2008, pp 311-312 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In Spring 1968, at the invitation of Albrecht Pietsch, Israel Gohberg visited and lectured at the University of Jena. At that time I was a young student in Jena, just finishing my diploma thesis with Albrecht Pietsch. From the talk given by Israel, I did not understand much. But still today I see him acting in front of the blackboard, and I remember how I was impressed by the colossal energy and optimism communicated by him, accompanied by kindness and humor.
