Abstract:
Abstract Conventional patent analysis has commonly focused on factual information, while less scholarly attention has been devoted to the strategic role of Patent Information System in supporting decision-making in R&D investment. This paper attempts to fill this gap and proposes an integrated conceptual framework which lies upon a process view of R&D strategy formulation, which is split into four stages. For each stage, PIS task and nature of information are highlighted. Moreover, some public and private on-line research tools are analyzed to compare services and support.
