Abstract: Auszug Viele meinen, die sogennante angewandte Mathematik (worunter dann numerische Mathematik und Stochastik verstanden wird), das sei wenigstens was. Dem steht entgegen, dass die meisten Mathematiker in ihrem Beruf keinerlei Mathematik brauchen — unabhängig davon, obdiese rein oder angewandt ist.
