Health & medical tourism

Vivien Breitrück and Elena Nunn

Chapter 7.0 in The Long Tail of Tourism, 2011, pp 57-67 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract When reading about health and medical tourism one might think that both terms apply to the same category of tourism, based on: caring for one's health, stress relief, personal wellbeing, fitness and body attractiveness. Indeed, many times these two terms are used as synonyms for one another. For a better understanding of the whole subject, the separation between health tourism and medical tourism is vital to show that both categories are not the same but yet related to one another. Both trends have emerged due to changes in demographics, today's education, standard of living, social behaviour, and lifestyle.
