Abstract:
Abstract Complex manufacturing systems are characterized by a diverse and over time changing product mix, sequence-dependent set-up times, unrelated parallel machines, a mix of different process types, different types of internal and external disturbances, and re-entrant process flows due to very expensive machinery. In this paper, the architecture for the performance assessment of pure production control schemes is extended to the assessment of planning approaches. Starting from the additional requirements for planning problems, the necessary extensions of the production control performance assessment architecture and for the performance assessment methodology are described. The computational results of a case study that uses the suggested performance assessment architecture are presented.
