Abstract:
Abstract This paper deals with the problem of conceptualizing entrepreneurship functionally. At first four basic and general elements of dynamic entrepreneurial theory — assumption of uncertainty — innovation — arbitrage — coordination — are presented. Afterwards the article investigates different ideas of entrepreneurship within economic literature considering the use of these elementary functions. While doing this a twice selection process can be identified, which is consisting of both accentuation and compression as decisive principles of building a functional perspective of entrepreneurship. The result of this process is a new type of taxonomy for entrepreneurial research. Depending on the theoretical basics of each analysed author this taxonomy makes it possible to categorize different functional concepts of entrepreneurship under a general schema of economic classification.
