Cultural Concepts

Ralf Bebenroth

Chapter 14 in International Business Mergers and Acquisitions in Japan, 2015, pp 203-216 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter deals with culture because an understanding of the impact of culture on one’s behavior is critical to the study of international business. If Managers are not aware of cultural differences, e.g. hardly understand the Japanese culture, problems may occur due to misunderstandings. This chapter discusses the roots of cultures and the dimensions of those cultures by introducing one of the most often cited studies conducted by Hofstede. Data from its dimension model for several countries will be reported. Additionally, the Global Leadership and Organisational Behavior Effectiveness project as well as the cultural dimensions by Trompenaars will be presented.
