A chapter in Complexity and Diversity, 1997, pp 178-180 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract So far, we have developed a lattice version of Lotka-Volterra theory (LVT), and found that long-term forecast looks unpredictable. However, in this article, we find a parity law: Not a microscopic structure of ecosystem, such as detailed interactions between species, but “parity”, defined by whether each system has odd or even number of species, is relevant for the long-term forecast. This parity dependence can be explained by the combination of mean-field theory (LVT) and the effect of spatial pattern formation of endangered species.
