Abstract:
Abstract In the present work, we first construct a model of the formation of public images of a city based on the idea that public city images are selected from variety of individuals’ city images according to the distribution of individuals’ image preferences and that positive feedback from the public images to the individuals’ images accelerates the sharing of a city image among people. The model is formulated in terms of population dynamics. An equation derived equation to model the populations of two city images competing with each other is applied to the analysis of the results of our questionnaire survey on the images of a city that is well-known in Japan as a prison city. Comparing the theoretical results and data obtained from the survey, we suggest a new planning method for city revitalization.
