Abstract:
Abstract Since the dawn of new millennium, concept of sustainable development is featured as core element of policy documents of more and more governments. The concepts of sustainable development and globalization are interwoven. More specifically, the interactions between technologies and natural resources have significant implications for sustainable development. Innovation ecosystem plays an important role in development of technologies in the context of sustainable development. In the ecosystem of innovation, universities and research institutions are critical players apart from industries and investors. There are only a few examples of critical technologies addressing sustainable development in the areas of energy, water, environment, and education. Korea has successfully developed some of these technologies and has implemented them at few locations. The lessons learned from implementation of these technologies for a specific region suggest the need for a right framework for effective technology management.
