A chapter in Biomathematics and Related Computational Problems, 1988, pp 345-360 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Two competing theoretical approaches to the evolution of animals’ social behavior, Inclusive Fitness Theory and Fitness Functions Theory, are sketchily described, and the main points of dissent are indicated. Through a critical comparison of basic results of the two theories, the assumptions needed to guarantee mathematical validity to Inclusive Fitness Theory are outlined. Some indication that these assumptions are not always met in nature is given. Conditions under which this theory is incorrect, and some biologically important consequences, are discussed.
