Abstract:
Summary If the approximation exactly fulfills the differential equation the FE-method is said to be exact. A single element then represents a continuous part of the structure and only a few elements are sufficient for an accurate result. The paper gives a unified discussion of the exact FE-method for frame structures and also shows that the load term can be handled by use of one ‘exact’ hierarchical base function.
