Abstract:
Summary In this paper a numerical approach for the analysis of elastic plate on viscoelastic foundations is developed. The effects of foundation responses are introduced by an analogy to mechanical plate vibrations. The differential and integral types of viscoelastic foundation responses are formulated by particular forms of finite difference equations to analyze the time effects. The structural responses are modeled by the finite element displacement method. The present method combines these two formulations for the response of elastic plates on visco- elastic foundations. The technique is validated by comparing the finite element results to the analytical solution of an infinite elastic beam on a Kelvin foundation. Numerical results are also included for a simply supported elastic plate on Maxwell and Kelvin foundations.
