Chapter D53 in Numerical Techniques for Engineering Analysis and Design, 1987, pp 475-484 from Springer

Abstract: Summary Mindlin/Reissner (M/R) formulations have been increasingly adopted in the finite element analysis of plates because they provide a more accurate, versatile and convenient basis for the development of finite elements. This paper addresses two questions: (a) ‘Are there any inherent limitations in the use of M/R formulations?’ and (b) ‘Are there any attractive alternatives?’
