Abstract: Summary When high strain rate processes are simulated by standard elasto-viscoplastic algorithms it is necessary to apply short time steps to avoid the overestimation of stresses and therefore heat generation due to plastic work. In many cases time step limitations lead to unaccaptably expensive computation. In this paper a simple approach is proposed which allows the use of larger time steps.
