Abstract:
Summary Currently available equations for cantilever sheet pile design are restricted to homogeneous or presupposed homogeneous soils below the dredge line. Since the composition of natural soil deposits is often quite complex, an analytical formulation is developed to permit the determination of required piling penetration for the case of stratified foundation soils. A computer program SPILE is developed to solve the generalized equations for the required penetration depth and consequent maximum bending moment.
