A chapter in Bifurcation Analysis, 1985, pp 101-114 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Mathematical models capable of representing drastic transformations of form and structure — the transformations to which the human spirit is most sensitive — have so far been little explored. Until lately, shock therapy, applied in mechanics, was the only theory that could take account of such phenomena; however, the mathematician R. Thorn has recently opened up a wide field of research by Developping a General Theory of Morphogenetic Models.
