Chapter Chapter 3 in From Markov Jump Processes to Spatial Queues, 2003, pp 43-51 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The present chapter provides two important examples for Markovian arrival processes. In contrast to the top-down approach in chapter 2, where arrival processes have been introduced from a very general point of view, the following presentation shall provide some intuition into the common features of different specifications of MAPs. Therefore, we begin with the simple example (which is the well-known homogeneous BMAP) and proceed with generalizations in two respects: First, the processes are developed to include inhomogeneity in time. Second, the arrival space is generalized to a continuous one.
