Chapter 4 in Approximate Solution of Operator Equations, 1972, pp 199-321 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the preceding chapters, we studied various iterative methods for the approximate solution of operator equations. This chapter is devoted to approximate methods based on an essentially new idea: First “approximate” the equation, then determine an exact solution of the “approximating” equation. The structure of the approximating equation usually aims at reducing its solution to that of a finite system of scalar equations.
