Abstract: Abstract The terms data analysis, pattern recognition, and data mining are often used synonymously, and we shall do the same here. On the one hand, this area is one of the oldest and most obvious application areas for fuzzy set theory. On the other hand, pattern recognition existed long before fuzzy sets became known.
