Chapter Chapter 4 in Statistics Applied to Clinical Trials, 2000, pp 35-37 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Table I shows that any confidence interval ( 95 % CIs intervals between the brackets in each of the examples) that does not overlap zero is statistically different from zero. Only intervals between the prespecified range of equivalence −D to + D present equivalence. Thus, situations 3, 4 and 5 demonstrate equivalence, while 1 and 2, just like 6 and 7 do not. Situations 3 and 5 present equivalence and at the same time significant difference. Situation 8 presents nor significant difference, nor equivalence.
