Chapter Chapter 20 in Where Mathematics, Computer Science, Linguistics and Biology Meet, 2001, pp 227-235 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract We consider so-called Fatou-type properties of rational languages and relations. For example, if the rational expression E(X 1,..., X n ) over arbitrary languages X 1,..., X n represents a rational language, then each language X i can be replaced by a rational language Y i such that E(X 1,..., X n ) = E(Y 1,..., Y n ) holds and moreover X i ⊆ Y i for i = 1,..., n. Some similar results for rational relations are established and an open problem on rational relations is stated.
