A chapter in Optimization and Inverse Problems in Electromagnetism, 2003, pp 213-221 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this paper an induction heating system is optimized using the hybrid FEM-DBCI (Finite Element Method — Dirichlet Boundary Condition Iteration) to evaluate the objective function. In order to reduce the computing time for the whole procedure, Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques are used to screen significant geometric parameters. Once the number of problem variables is decreased, the optimization is performed by means of the Hooke-Jeeves algorithm. The results are compared with those obtained by stochastic optimization of the device.
