Abstract C. N. Srinivasiengar was perhaps the first historian of mathematics to give a modern exposition of the Lakṣa Scale as found in the Yuddhakāṇḍa (the Sixth Book) of the Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, the national epic of India.
