Abstract: Abstract In ancient time, the Jaina School of Indian mathematics took great interest in the subject of permutations and combinations as is clear from their canonical and other literature. The Bhagavatī-sūtra (dated about 300 bc) is said to have mentioned combinations of n objects taken one at a time (eka-saṃyoga), two at a time (dvika-saṃyoga), three at a time (trika-saṃyoga), or more at a time.
