Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines the nature of employment relations in the Indian Information Technology (IT) industry. A detailed review of the regulatory foundations of employment in the industry is combined with insights into the evolving and often tenuous nature of employment-related flexibilities of both IT workers and IT firms. Recent trends in unionization and collectivization in the industry are examined in relation to labour market uncertainties. These are done by drawing linkages between labour regulation and an analysis of aspects of employment relationships in IT work, drawn from empirical field research conducted amongst IT workers in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
